Letters from the Villagers of Baako
The native language of our volunteers in Breman Baako is not English but rather Fante, a Ghanaian language. Thus, the grammar in these letters, but of course not the intent, has been modified below.
From Frank:
My
name is Frank Kwakye. I come from Breman Baako and I am an
electrician by profession. I help them with the project you are
bringing to Breman Baako so that the project can help me in the
future. I am among those who weed the land and clear the rubbish
[for the construction of the
Moringa Community Training Center]. I know that the school
project can help, especially for those who are in need. I can help
the people in Ghana by building in Breman Baako in the Central
Region.
I'd like to end with a greeting to you and your co-workers in
America (U.S.A.). May God bless you and your co-workers. THANK YOU.
From Winifred:
Winifred
Donkoh is my name. I come from Breman Baako. I am a professional by
trade. You are bringing this project at Baako and I help them to do
the project, so that the project can help me, as well as my
children. Please, I know that the school project can help,
especially the ones in need, so I can help the people at Breman
Baako in the Central Region.
I'd like to end with a greeting to you and your co-workers.
From Michael:
My
name is Michael Inkoom. I am a boy at sixteen years old. I come from
Breman Baako. I attend school at Baako Junior high 2. It can be fine
in Central Region for pupils like me in my school, because I know
how to read and write. I am very happy to write this, because i know
that your school will benefit me, I am very happy with that. and I
know that it will help me, because my family is poor in money. After
my junior high school I will continue in your school.
God bless you all.
Goodbye.
From Richmond:
I
am very glad to write this. My name is Richmond Quainoo. I come from
Breman Baako. I am among those who have started working in the
school project. I think this project will benefit my village, Breman
Baako, and other villages. There are many school drop outs, because
most of the children can not go forward after J.H.S. [junior high
school] because of money.
Thank you for your help.
From Amoah:
May God Bless You all.
My name is Amoah and I come from Breman Baako
where you are doing the project. I was attending school Baako D/A
J.H.S. 2.
I am very happy that you are coming to do this project. When I was
at school I learned pre-technical skills, and then all the subjects
in the school. When I was at home and my father's radio turned off,
I would go for the radio and fix it.
I want you to help me and my family. I will make sure that I will
come to that technical school you are coming to build.
Please help me and my family. If you do so, God will help you to do
more than this.
Thank you very much.
